Responsibilities include: Instructing students regarding a variety of classroom topics, assigning tasks to students in accordance with lesson plans, maintaining classroom control, addressing various learning styles of students, and maintaining student and school personnel confidentiality. 

  • Summer 2011- Summer Graduate Teaching Assistant for the Principles of Biology I Laboratory Course (Biol 411)

  • 2009-2011- Summer Graduate Teaching Assistant for Project SMART (Science and Mathematics Achievement Through Research Training)

Responsibilities include: leading high school students in laboratory exercises in the field of plant and microbial biotechnology, attending field trips to research facilities in the New Hampshire area, and acquainting students with opportunities and resources available on campus.




EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

  • 2009-2010- Wildcat Youth Mentor
Responsibilities include: mentoring a 5th grade student with the rare chromosomal disorder, trisomy 12p. Visiting with student, improving organizational skills, and providing moral support and companionship.

  • 2008- Participation in Project L.E.A.D., University of New Hampshire Leadership Center
Participation in Emerging Leaders series with group focuses on cultural self-awareness, self-reflection, and leadership concepts.  Participation in Transforming Leaders series with group focuses on transactional vs. transformational leadership, leadership for social change, and a group service project volunteering for the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire 5K Road Race.

  • 2007- Participation in Peer-Lead Team Learning Chemistry Group (PLTL)  Responsibilities include: teaching peers how to effectively study in groups, to improve problem-solving skills, and create an interactive learning environment.

  • 2006- Participation in the Young & Motivated Program, an interactive leadership workshop for young adults with focuses on time management, finances and relationship skills.




COMMUNITY SERVICE

  • Spring 2012- Honduras Oral Health Service Mission
Will participate in a health service mission trip with the University of Connecticut School of Dental medicine to bring preventative health education and restorative dental care to an indigent population in Honduras, Central America.

  • 2009-2011- SHARPP Advocate for the Sexual Harassment and Rape Prevention Program (SHARPP) at the University of New Hampshire, including 30 hours of formal training as required by the NH RSA 173-C.  Responsibilities include: providing crisis intervention and advocacy for survivors of sexual assault.

  • Spring 2010- Belize Oral Health Service Mission
Participated in a health mission trip with the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine to bring preventative health education and restorative dental care to an indigent population in Belize, Central America.




SKILLS

Biochemistry
  • Extensive work with High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and fluorescent detection 

Molecular Biology
  • DNA, RNA, and protein isolation (plants), quantitative RT-PCR, Southern Blot and Western Blot techniques
  • Cloning, vector construction, and plant transformation involving electroporation and Agrobacterium mediated gene transfer

Microscopy
  • Training in the use of the transmission electron microscope (TEM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and confocal microscope

Computer Application
  • Proficiency in bioinformatics tools to analyze sequence data
